Prior to September 2016, on paper, the Guyot shelter and tent sites held a mere 46 people. But anyone who went up there on a weekend knows that we would pack them in as best we could with numbers reaching around 90 most Saturdays. Caretakers would put people in any place they could--along the trail, in the cooking area, and, when times were real desperate, in water drainages. But, with the help of a donation from the AMC 4,000 Footer Club, Guyot will now be able to hold a few more tents. This 2016 season the campsite program constructed 5 brand new platforms at Guyot, finally bringing the infrastructure up to the demand of use. Guyot is the busiest site in our fleet, this season alone seeing over 3,700 visitors--and we see that number continuing to rise every year. We here at the AMC appreciate everything the AMC 4,000 Footer Club has done for Guyot. Creating these platforms will help us provide a sustainable place to camp, preserving the magic of Guyot for future generations.
Thank You AMC 4,000 Footer Club!
